i used flash 8 before,it's the same as cs3.isn't it? (please correct me if I'm wrong)
it's depending of what drawing you want to put a shade.
-2 layer (with gradient) shading.
-2d shading(two colors)
-many layer shading and group after(become one layer.)
and there's many more.
there's so many style but it's up to you how you use it.
